My dear children, let me tell you a story from long, long ago. It carries a lesson that life has taught me, and I want you to remember it as you grow.
There was once a small village where a kind farmer lived. In his barnyard, he kept many animals—among them were a pig and a sheep. Now, though they lived close together, the two were very different in nature.
The pig was restless and loud. If anything displeased him, he would grunt and squeal until the whole farm heard him. The sheep, on the other hand, was gentle and quiet. She never complained, even when the farmer came to shear off her wool. She trusted that what was taken would grow back again.
One hot summer morning, the farmer caught hold of the pig and tied a rope around its leg. He was taking it to the market. The moment the pig felt the rope, it cried out in a terrible voice—screeching, squealing, and fighting with all its might.
“Why me? Why me?” it screamed. “Why don’t you take the sheep instead? You cut her wool off so many times, and yet she never makes a sound. Why am I always the one who suffers?”
The farmer said nothing, but the sheep, who had been watching quietly, lifted her head and spoke softly, “Brother Pig, you must understand—when the farmer takes my wool, it does not harm me. I feel no real pain, and my wool grows back again. But when he takes you away, it is not your wool he wants—it is your life. That is why your cries are loud, for you know the truth in your heart.”
The pig fell silent. In that moment, it realized the sheep had always carried her burden with patience, while it had spent its days grumbling about smaller troubles.
Now, my dear ones, this is what life teaches us: everyone carries their own burden, but not all burdens are the same. Some may look easy from the outside, but you do not know how heavy they are until you carry them yourself. Do not compare your troubles with others, and do not laugh at someone else’s pain. Instead, face your own struggles with courage and patience, just as the sheep did.
Moral of the Story:
“Each one knows the weight of their own burden. Do not judge, do not complain—learn to bear your share with patience and wisdom.”
