The Real Mother

Two women came before King Solomon, each claiming to be the mother of the same baby. Both women lived in the same house and had given birth within days of each other. One of the babies had died, and now both women were fiercely arguing over who was the real mother of the living child.

Unable to resolve the dispute, King Solomon, known for his wisdom, devised a plan to reveal the true mother. He ordered, "Bring me a sword." A soldier quickly presented a sword to the king.

Solomon then declared, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to one woman and half to the other."

Upon hearing this shocking judgment, one woman immediately cried out, "Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don't kill him!"

The other woman, however, callously responded, "It shall be neither mine nor yours. Cut it in two!"

Solomon, now certain of the real mother's identity, wisely said, "Give the living baby to the first woman. She is the real mother. Do not harm the child."

The judgment astounded the people, and they marveled at Solomon's wisdom, realizing that the true mother's love and compassion had been revealed in her willingness to give up her claim to save her child's life.

The story illustrates the depth of a mother's love and the wisdom of King Solomon in discerning the true mother through a clever and emotionally charged judgment. It has become a timeless tale, emphasizing the selflessness and sacrificial nature of a mother's love.
