The Gingerbread Man

Once upon a time, in a small village in India, there lived an old woman named Kamala and her husband, Ramesh. One day, Kamala decided to bake something special. "I will make a gingerbread man today," she said. So she mixed flour, jaggery, and spices, shaped the dough into a little man, and carefully decorated him with raisins for eyes, cloves for buttons, and a big smile made of sugar syrup.

She placed him in the tandoor (clay oven) to bake. When the gingerbread man was ready, Kamala opened the tandoor to take him out. But to her surprise, the gingerbread man jumped up and ran out of the house, shouting, "Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"

Kamala and Ramesh chased after him, but the gingerbread man was too fast for them.

He ran through the village and passed a farmer working in the field. The farmer saw the gingerbread man and shouted, "Stop! I want to eat you!" But the gingerbread man laughed and said, "Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"

The farmer joined the chase, but no one could catch the gingerbread man.

Next, he passed a cow grazing in the field. The cow mooed, "Stop! I want to eat you!" But the gingerbread man kept running, shouting, "Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"

The cow joined the chase, followed by Kamala, Ramesh, and the farmer. The gingerbread man ran faster and faster.

Then he came across a goat chewing on some grass. The goat bleated, "Stop! I want to eat you!" But the gingerbread man shouted back, "Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"

The goat joined the chase, and soon the gingerbread man had a whole crowd running after him.

Finally, the gingerbread man reached a river. He stopped, realizing he couldn’t cross the river without getting wet and falling apart. Just then, a clever fox appeared. The fox said, "Oh, little gingerbread man, I can help you cross the river. Climb onto my tail, and I will carry you safely."

The gingerbread man hesitated but agreed. He climbed onto the fox's tail, and the fox began to swim across the river. As they reached the middle of the river, the fox said, "The water is rising, little man. Climb onto my back, or you’ll get wet."

The gingerbread man moved onto the fox's back. Soon, the fox said, "The water is even higher now. Climb onto my head!"

The gingerbread man climbed onto the fox's head. But as they neared the riverbank, the fox tossed the gingerbread man into the air, opened his mouth, and snapped him up in one big gulp.

And that was the end of the gingerbread man.

Moral of the story: "Don’t trust strangers, especially those who seem too eager to help." Cleverness and caution are important when dealing with the unknown.
