Here's a simple recipe for preparing Cabbage Fried Rice at home:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked basmati rice (preferably leftover and cooled)
  • 1 cup finely shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup carrots, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1/2 cup onions, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Spring onions for garnishing (optional)
  • Fried eggs or scrambled eggs (optional, for added protein)

Instructions:

  • Cook the basmati rice and let it cool. It's preferable to use leftover rice as it's less sticky.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped onions, green chilies and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
  • Add shredded cabbage, chopped carrots and green peas. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still have a crunch.
  • Add soy sauce, chili sauce, black pepper powder and salt. Mix well to coat the vegetables with the sauces and seasonings.
  • Add the cooked and cooled basmati rice to the pan. Gently mix to combine the rice with the vegetable mixture. Ensure that the rice grains don't break.
  • If desired, you can push the rice to the side of the pan and pour beaten eggs into the empty space. Scramble the eggs and mix them with the rice.
  • Garnish with chopped spring onions if available.
  • Cabbage Fried Rice is ready to be served. You can serve it hot as is or with a side of your favorite sauce.
