Paneer Tikka is a well-loved Indian starter made with paneer (a type of Indian cheese) that is marinated in spices and yogurt, then grilled or baked for a smoky, tasty treat.

Here's how you can make it at home in easy-to-understand language:

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams paneer, cut into cubes
  • ½ cup thick yogurt (hung curd)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust for spice)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Optional: onion rings and bell pepper cubes for skewers
  • Oil or ghee for grilling
  • Fresh coriander for garnish
  • Mint chutney for serving

Steps:

  • In a bowl, mix yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice and all the spices (chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, cumin, coriander and salt). Add oil and mix into a smooth paste.
  • Add paneer cubes into the marinade. Gently mix to coat the paneer. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour to absorb the flavors.
  • If using skewers, alternate marinated paneer with onion and bell pepper pieces on the skewers.
  • Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat. Brush the grill or baking tray with oil. Cook the paneer skewers or cubes for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until golden and slightly charred. Baste with more oil or ghee while grilling if desired.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with mint chutney and lemon wedges.

Tips:

  • Vegetable Add-ins: Feel free to add other veggies like mushrooms or zucchini for variety.
  • Oven Option: If you don’t have a grill, bake in a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F) for 15-20 minutes.

Enjoy these flavorful and aromatic paneer tikka bites as a starter or appetizer at your next gathering or as a delicious snack.
