How to prepare Palak Paneer at Home - Palak Paneer Recipe

Palak paneer is a popular North Indian dish made with spinach and paneer (Indian cheese).

Here's a recipe for preparing palak paneer at home for serving four people:


  • 2 cups chopped spinach (palak)
  • 200g paneer, cut into small cubes
  • 1 medium-sized onion, chopped
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Water as required


  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they crackle, add chopped onions and green chili. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  4. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  5. Add chopped spinach and mix well. Cook on medium heat until the spinach wilts and turns soft.
  6. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
  7. Once the mixture has cooled, blend it into a smooth paste using a blender or mixer.
  8. Heat the same pan again and add the blended spinach paste. Add water as required to adjust the consistency.
  9. Add paneer cubes and cook on medium heat for 5-7 minutes until the paneer cubes are soft and well-cooked.
  10. Add garam masala powder and mix well. Cook for another minute.
  11. Serve hot with roti, naan or rice.
